It is 1971. America is in the grip of a familiar scenario- a dirty war based on lies. Daniel Ellsberg, once a dedicated cold warrior and Vietnam war planner, now sees the war as a crime. Armed with top secret Pentagon documents, he leaks the truth about the war and risks life in prison to end the war he helped plan. This political thriller involves a twisting trail that leads to the Watergate scandal, Nixon's resignation, and, finally, the end of the war in Southeast Asia. Oscar-nominated for Best Documentary: Feature Length. [violence]
On July 8, 2005, blogger and activist Josh Wolf filmed an anti-G8 protest that turned violent and a police officer was injured. After selling his edited video footage, Josh was subpoenaed by a federal grand jury. Josh refused to be the government's informant and was jailed for 226 days. The film examines Josh's current journalism job and his past as a jailed blogger who struggled to get the media establishment to acknowledge that he is a legitimate journalist.
