Armory - Thu 6:00 PM (4/7) Varsity 3 - Mon 12:40 PM (4/11) When a former child actor, played by David Giuntoli (Grimm), is jilted at the altar, his relentlessly upbeat best man (Flula Borg) insists they go on the honeymoon together! Thus ensues a hilariously harrowing back- country trek through Oregon’s breathtaking Columbia Gorge. Over seven days, the two friends write a song, lose their phones, and cross paths with a conspiracy theorist, a friendly backpacker (Claire Coffee, also of Grimm), and an actual wolf. Interwoven with ironic diary entries from the travels of Lewis & Clark, the unrelenting nature of...nature...tests the bonds of their friendship and their ability to survive in and out of the wild. Winner: Audience Award for Narrative Features, 2016 Slamdance Film Festival. Special guest Flula Borg will live DJ after the film.
Director’s Statement: Alex Simmons
Honey Buddies is an ode to the great bromances of the American West. It didn’t start that way. David, Flula and I just wanted to make something funny and true about two friends who go backpacking after one of them has his heart broken. But the idea grew from there and eventually I started to see parallels between the Lewis and Clark expedition, and Flula and David’s journey. Now, Lewis and Clark risked their lives on a near daily basis over the course of their multi-year trek, while Flula and David just have to carry back- packs full of peanut butter sandwiches for a week. Yet the bonds that develop from isolation, adventure and running from large mammals are universal. Buddies from any era will find them the moment they leave civilization behind and spend one night sleeping on the cold ground next to their best friend.
