This is the thrilling story of the rugged, courageous men of the U.S. Army's 10th Mountain Division. Seminal documentary filmmakers George and Beth Gage set a standard in this award-winning film that takes us from the intensive training in the Colorado Rockies to the spectacular night climb of Italy's Riva Ridge during WWII, where the 10th Mountain Division scored their biggest victory and helped end the war. Interviews with this elite group of champion skiers, climbers, and European mountaineers reveal that their love of the mountains is equaled only by their love for their fellow mountain soldiers; this was truly a band of brothers. The follow up of what these men did after the war is fascinating, as many have gone on to have a profound impact on the ski industry, the world of climbing, and the preservation and enjoyment of wild areas. The men of the 10th Mountain Division are true heroes, in both war and peace. “Bracing exploits, hearty outdoorsmen powerfully captured on film!” New York Times

What inspired you to make this film?

The story of the men of the 10th Mountain Division. Their brutal but fun-filled training, their heroic and daring exploits, their sacrifice, and their amazing accomplishments after the war. This is the stuff of enduring legend. How could you not want to make a film about these American heroes?

What would you like the audience to know?
Making this film was the single most worthwhile, satisfying and inspiring event in our filmmaking career. We loved every minute of it.

Veterans of the 10th Mountain Division will be special guests at the screenings!

Several of Oregon’s own veterans of the 10th Mountain Division will attend all aiff screenings of the film. These honored guests will join filmmaker George Gage on stage for the post film Q & A. Don't miss this opportunity to hear and pose questions to the men whose athletic heroics are the stuff of legend. Champion skiers, climbers and mountaineers who dedicated their lives to saving others will talk about their experiences and their lives over the last 60 years.
