Woman In The Attic

Filmmaker: Chansoo Kim
Genre: Student Film/Stop-Motion Animated Drama
Running time: 5 minutes

The view from an attic is analogous to the old stories the filmmaker's grandmother tells. Two years in the making, this meticulous stop-motion animation is a foray into dusty memory and the eternal youth inside us all.

Interview with Chansoo Kim
Q. What inspired you to make this film?
A. When my grandparents started to tell their old stories, I was very fascinated by the idea of what it would be like to look back your own life after you get old. This film owes greatly to my grandmother. I always feel her presence throughout the film.

Q. What would you like the audience to know?
A. Puppets were made of various materials, including aluminum wires, brass tubes, paper clay and liquid plastic. Then the animation was shot frame by frame with a high-resolution digital still camera, edited in computer and output to 35mm film. The production took nearly two years, at an extremely tedious
and slow speed.
