The ashland independent film festival is a non-profit organization committed to facilitating and promoting independent film in Southern Oregon. It is our hope that the Launch will inspire, encourage and educate young people in the region to continue to create films.

The Launch Regional Student Film Competition

- It's FREE to enter!
- The deadline for film submission is 1/24/08
- Students from Southern Oregon will compete in 4 age categories: K-5, 6-8, 9-12, college
- Films can be any genre: animation, claymation, documentary, dramatic narrative, etc.
- Films must be 5 minutes or less, all films longer than 5 minutes are disqualified
- Films must be free of copyright infringement. Check out this website for for an award winning library of stock music royalty free music to use in your film (www.royaltyfreemusic.com)
- All films must have been made in 2007
- Winners will have their films screened during the festival, receive a VIP pass, and get a chance to hang out with independent filmmakers from around the world!

Not sure where to start? Click here for an example of a stop motion film. Stop motion films are fairly simple to create, and do not require a video camera. They are a series of digital photos strung together using video editing software (which can be downloaded for free) to create a moving image. Gumby was done this way! Click here for more information on how to create something like this.
