Francois is a young, naive peasant who delivers milk to the inhabitants of a small village.  One day, the local doctor who is disabled, urgently asks him to take a letter to one of his colleagues living in the neighbouring town. Sarah, the doctor's daughter, claims that her father is holding her prisoner.  She talks Francois into taking her with him to free her from captivity.  The fastest way to their destination is to cross the icy Fagne.  Caught in a blizzard, Francois and Sarah lose their way as the audience discover the truth. This short film was originally a sound-art work created for the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver.  The covers and inside pages of a number of lurid, vintage paperbacks were scanned and  saved, with the resulting image and text data fed through a variety of synthesizers and processed into electronic soundscapes. The visual portion of the piece makes use of the cover images themselves, with one illustrated figure morphing into the next. Each cover is visible in its original state for only 1/30th of a second.  Nearly 200 cover images are manipulated and displayed in this difficult to describe but fascinating experimental film.
