Johnny Depp narrates Oscar-winning director Alex Gibney’s (Taxi to the Darkside, Enron) look into the life of gonzo journalism inventor Dr. Hunter S. Thompson. A fast moving, wildly entertaining documentary with an iconic soundtrack, the film addresses the major touchstones in Thompson’s life—the notorious story behind his landmark book Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, his deep involvement in Senator George McGovern’s 1972 presidential campaign, his near-successful bid for the office of sheriff in Aspen in 1970 and much more. This screening continues the ashland independent film festival's monthly series of Southern Oregon premieres and encores of Film Festival favorites showing on selected Fridays through November at the Varsity.
