2007 Festival (April 12-16th)

2007 SPECIAL GUESTS

At the 2007 festival, we were honored to award legendary documentary filmmaker Les Blank with the Artistic Achievement Award. The New York Times called Blank "a master of movies about the American idiom…one of our most original filmmakers.” The honor includes a retrospective of his classic films and a work-in-progress screening of Blank’s latest, The Tea Film (working title).

Another highlight was a Sneak Preview of My Name is Bruce, the latest from cult favorite, Southern Oregon resident and the 2007 AIFF Rogue Award recipient, Bruce Campbell. Also screened were his classics Evil Dead II, Army of Darkness and Bubba Ho-tep.

The 2007 Rogue Award was also awarded to Adrian Belic. His 1999 film Genghis Blues was shown along with his recent film Beyond the Call. Adrian was also the recipient of the Rogue Creamery Audience Award for best Documentary for his film Beyond the Call.
2007 SPECIAL EVENTS
The Parties The 2007 AIFF Opening Night Bash was April 12, 8-11p, at the Ashland Springs Hotel and featured The Rogue Creamery’s Savor the Rogue, a tasting highlighting the Rogue Valley’s many gourmet delicacies. The Awards Celebration took place April 15, 7-11p, at the Historic Ashland Armory. The gala included many of the areas finest restaurants. The Artistic Achievement and Rogue awards, seven juried prizes and three audience awards were presented.
Emile Norman: By His Own Design 88-year-old, self-taught California artist, Emile Norman, subject of the documentary Emile Norman: By His Own Design, shared his independent spirit and his art during the 2007 AIFF at the Houston's Gallery from Thursday, April 12th- Monday, April 16th.
Smarter Audiences Make Better Movies On Thursday morning before any films were shown Warren Etheredge, a teacher, filmmaker, actor, ordained minister and 2007 AIFF juror offered his popular talk on how to watch a film. Funny, smart, enganging, and irreverent, the talk received rave reviews and was the perfect way to begin the festival. For more information on Warren, go to www.thewarrenreport.com
Hands on Digital Media Workshop MOJO Rising Workshop and Event Studio presented two days of hands-on digital media workshops on 25 iMac G5s provided courtesy of Apple. Instructors were certified videographers from the Stanford University-based Digital Media Academy’s faculty and Apple's Distinguished Educator program. Saturday, April 14 was a full-day, Final Cut Pro workshop and Sunday, April 15 featured four 1.5 hour easy-to-learn multimedia sessions.
