18th Annual AIFF | April 11-15, 2019
With over 5 days of 100+ great docs, features, and shorts, the Ashland Independent Film Festival is committed to providing the best festival experience possible for our audiences, our jurors and special guests, and of course, our Filmmakers! Filmmakers receive complimentary accommodations, some meals, and ground transportation to/from the Rogue Valley International–Medford Airport, plus a pass to all films, parties, panels, and special events. Enjoy the hospitality of our staff and volunteers as we extensively promote your film, which is screened several times over five days, in theaters packed with intelligent and engaged audiences. New in 2019: The James Blue Filmmaker Award
This juried award will be given to a filmmaker whose first or second documentary or narrative feature exemplifies the values of Oregonian director James Blue (1930-80), whose work addressed complex issues of social justice and social/political change. The award, funded by the James Blue Alliance in the amount of $2,500, will be given to the selected film director on awards night of the Ashland Independent Film Festival.
Locals Only is a FREE program that spotlights filmmakers and filmmaking in the Siskiyou Region—anyone residing in the following counties: Coos, Curry, Douglas, Jackson, Josephine, and Klamath in Oregon; Siskiyou and Del Norte in California. The entry fee is waived for Locals Only Submissions. Everyone who submits a film receives two tickets to the film festival! Winners will have their film screened during the 18th Annual Ashland Independent Film Festival, April 11-15, 2019, receive a Filmmaker Pass to all films and special events, interact with filmmakers from around the world, and participate in Q&As after the screenings. Tickets to the screenings are free to the public so as many people as possible can attend and celebrate local filmmakers and their films! Launch is a FREE contest for Siskiyou Region student filmmakers—anyone residing in the following counties: Coos, Curry, Douglas, Jackson, Josephine, and Klamath in Oregon; Siskiyou and Del Norte in California.
Films need to be 5 minutes or under, but can be any genre—animation, claymation, documentary or narrative—it’s up to you! There are five categories: grades K-5, 6-8, 9-12, and college undergrads and the PridePrize.
Everyone who submits a film receives two tickets to the film festival! The PridePrize – A Component of the Launch Film Competition
To celebrate diversity, identity, and discovery through the art of film, we now offer a special prize for outstanding student-made films that speak to the LGBTQ+ experience. All regional student filmmakers, grades 9-12 and college undergrads, are eligible for the PridePrize ($500) if the following criteria are met:
First, you must be eligible for the Launch competition (see submission info).
Next, your film must comply with Launch guidelines.
Finally, the film must be LGBTQ+ themed.
Your LGBTQ+ themed film may be about youth/adults and the issues (social, political, etc.), contemporary or historical, which affect the lives of individuals, groups, their communities, and our society at-large.
