For over two decades, the Ashland Independent Film Festival (AIFF) has brought audiences and filmmakers together to celebrate the power of story. We believe independent film is more than entertainment—it’s a catalyst for conversation and change.
From our home in beautiful Southern Oregon, AIFF has grown into a cornerstone of cultural life in the region, known for intimate screenings, engaging talkbacks, reflective experiences, and a strong sense of community. Each year, we present a carefully curated program of narratives, documentaries, and shorts—alongside forums, panels, annual programs and educational events that connect artists and audiences in meaningful ways.
Our impact extends beyond the screen. Through grassroots partnerships as well as volunteer-powered operations, we’re building a festival that’s inclusive rooted in the community we serve.

A Legacy of Independent Film
Since our humble beginnings in October of 2001, AIFF has grown into an international destination, drawing filmmakers and audiences from around the globe.

A Unifying Mission
Independent film allows us to celebrate the diversity of human experience, and our annual festival is where it all comes together. Described as “like Sundance only warmer,” AIFF is set in the picturesque town of Ashland and provides an intimate setting that allows audience members, filmmakers, and industry representatives alike a rare chance to interact over five days at various events including screenings, forums, conversations, educational programs, and informal gatherings. Its draw is rural as well as urban, local well as global.
We’ve become just as committed to developing year-round programming, including a curated program of regular screenings that include festival favorites and new films.

The Ashland Independent Film Festival is a program of the Southern Oregon Film Society, founded in 2001.
